I so love your monthly newsletters Jude. Your summer plans sound perfect. June is my favourite month, and strawberries and eating alfresco as often as possible always feature! My Mum also loved Jane Austen adaptations, and I am happy to follow in her footsteps. Have a wonderful summer x
I love remembering watching Jane Austen adaptations with my mother, such happy memories, which then take me back to the library when I was probably 6 or 7 and she encouraged me to read Anne of Green Gables, she really gave me a love of reading. xxx
It’s such a joy to be able to get such gorgeous things. This morning a shop assistant was putting the freshly picked strawberries from a farm in the next little town on the shelf in the supermarket , it’s lovely to buy something so completely fresh.
Though I've also been spending summers at my sister's in Brittany for over 20 years I've never been to Sept Îles! Next time we go in the spring I want to visit the puffins. And I cannot think of a better meal than freshly caught mackerel and local produce. Enjoy your prolonged summer, Jude. x
A thoroughly enjoyable read as usual Judith. And I just love your thoughtfully composed images of fruit and vegetables. How lucky you are that your husband has a small boat and licence for lobster pots and fishing in the Brittany coast.
I did love the recents “Miss Austen” in the bbc earlier this year. I must download some of the earlier productions to watch.
Hi Jude, I love your descriptions of Brittany - the seafood, the beach, the little house. I started the 1970s Sense and Sensibility series last night. Having seen the modern renditions it feels a bit stilted, BUT we get to see a young Patricia Routledge, and that makes it all worthwhile. She’s hilarious. Enjoy your Summer. x
I absolutely agree, I started it too and it is very stilted! It looks very stagey ’, but so good to see proper character acting, and an opportunity to appreciate the improvements that happened in the late 80s/90s.
The same as Changing-pages I love your monthly newsletters.
I can almost smell the wonderful vegetables and love seeing all the different varieties on offer, never see them in our part of Kent though I'm sure they must be around.
Thank you so much Jane. I think we’re fortunate here in Brittany as there is a real passion for locally grown produce, the population is so much smaller than the SE of England, I think more people know others who work in farming: cousins, school friends, neighbours, that there is a closer link.
We are fortunate to have the boat, it’s easy enough to get a licence, he simply went to the local Cooperative Maritime and registered the boat. He pays for a local mooring every year, and loves the friendliness and camaraderie of the other fisherman. as Deborah says above the 1970s production is stilted, but the others are really super.

What a divine summer you have ahead of you. I hope you get to see the puffins.

Such beautiful pictures of all your summer produce, Jude. Have the most wonderful summer and I envy all your fresh lobster
I’m really looking forward to lobster, soon I hope. My husband is just waiting or a new engine for his boat, before the summer launch!
We are going to Suffolk next weekend so hoping to have some there from Orford Market.
